Jane has been involved in the Horse Industry for over 30 years (both here in Australia and in the UK) and is the author of two books published by CSIRO called: Managing Horses on Small Properties and Horse Safe: A Complete Guide to Equine Safety. She is also a co-author of Horse Sense – The Guide to Horse Care in Australia and New Zealand (2nd edition).

Jane holds an MSc (Masters degree) in Equine Studies from The University of Wales (UK) which she completed in the early nineties before migrating to Australia. This curriculum covered subjects such as horse behaviour, horse nutrition, horse health and disease, horse anatomy and physiology and horse business management. She also undertook a period of research at the Royal Edinburgh Veterinary School for my thesis on the grazing behaviour of horses.

Jane has taught riding and horse management for more than 25 years including seven years at Glenormiston College (Melbourne University) to students on Equine Studies courses. She is a rider and have competed in various disciplines including endurance, dressage, driving and show jumping, a qualified as an instructor with Horse Safety Australia and an executive member of this organisation.

She runs one day seminars (Managing Horses on Small Properties) for groups such as Landcare, water catchment groups and local councils and has written numerous horse magazine articles, is a freelance writer of books, booklets and equine courses on subjects such as riding, nutrition, behaviour, horse training and property/pasture management.

Janes sessions will include:

The private life of your horse (the stresses of domestic v free ling horses compared plus time budgets of horses. What they do with their day, what is important)

Grass and the importance of fibre for horses (important facts about grasses for horses – managing your horse’s intake of grasses and hay)

Pasture management on horse properties (how to manage pasture taking the behaviour of the horse /and /the environment into consideration). The pasture management talk also covers weeds (or how to prevent getting them). I will also be telling people where they can get more info about weeds in particular.

Manure and worm management (the various actions that you can do to reduce worms on your horse property in conjunction with worming pastes)
